How it works
Check the birthday boundary
Compare the day before a birthday with the birthday itself. Completed years change at that boundary; elapsed days keep increasing steadily. This helps explain why nearly identical date ranges can display different whole-year ages.
Reading age on a selected date
Age depends on both the birth date and the date on which it is measured. Check the reference date before comparing results from different visits. Calendar years and months have different lengths, so a calendar-age breakdown is different from dividing a day count by a fixed year length. The result follows the date handling described by the calculator.
Age on a date: formula and assumptions
Count complete calendar years, then months, then remaining days.
Month-end anniversaries clamp to the last day of the month. This is a calendar calculation, not legal age advice.
Worked example
Using the Age on a date example:
- Date of birth
- 1995-06-15
- Age on
- 2026-10-09
Count complete calendar years, then months, then remaining days.
Example result
Calendar age: 31 years, 3 months, 24 days
Total days: 11,439
These are illustrative inputs. Change the values to explore a different scenario.

Common questions
Why is calendar age different from total days divided by 365?
Calendar years and months have different lengths. The calculator counts completed calendar periods before the remaining days.
How are month-end anniversaries handled?
If the matching day does not exist in a target month, the anniversary is clamped to that month's final day.
