Currency: USD
Enter all amounts in USD. Changing currency keeps numbers unchanged; no exchange rate is applied.
- Tip
- $18.00
- Total bill
- $118.00
- Per person
- $59.00
How it works
Rounding each share leaves a remainder
A total of 100 split three ways displays about 33.33 each, leaving 0.01 unpaid if everyone pays exactly that amount. Check the original total and assign the rounding remainder when settling the actual bill.
Splitting a bill and tip consistently
Decide which bill amount is the base for the tip before entering the percentage. The calculator then separates the tip and the total to be divided among the selected number of people. Check whether service charges or tax are already included in the entered bill. An equal split assumes each person shares the same portion and does not allocate individual ordered items.
Tip & bill split: formula and assumptions
Tip = bill×tip rate; each share = (bill+tip)/people.
Decide whether your entered bill includes tax according to your preference and local convention.

Common questions
Is the tip calculated before or after tax?
It uses the bill amount you enter. Choose a pre-tax or tax-inclusive amount according to the convention you want to apply.
Does splitting a bill change the total tip?
No. The tip is calculated on the entered bill first, then the combined amount is divided equally among the people.
