How it works

A useful distinction

Two percentage discounts do not simply add

A 20% discount followed by another 10% leaves 72 from an original 100, an effective 28% reduction. Run the second percentage on the first sale price; entering 30% would overstate the saving.

Checking the price before and after a discount

For an original price of 120, a 25% discount removes 30 and leaves 90. If you also enter a fixed discount of 10, this calculator applies it afterward, giving a final price of 80. Reversing the order would give 82.50, so check the promotion's terms before comparing the result with a checkout total. Use the known-pair mode when you know the sale price and need the original price or discount. The optional tax rate applies after the discounts; delivery charges are not included.

Calculate: formula and assumptions

Discounted price = original×(1−discount rate)−fixed discount.

Enter amounts in the same currency. Tax and commission rules can vary by contract and jurisdiction.

Discount from a selected known pair: formula and assumptions

Final = original − savings = original × (1−discount).

Fixed savings and percentage discounts are distinct inputs. A zero final price with 100% off cannot identify the original price.

Common questions

In what order are a percentage and fixed discount applied?

The main calculation applies the percentage reduction first, then subtracts the fixed amount. The known-pair mode solves one discount relationship from the selected inputs.

Can a zero final price determine the original price?

At 100% off, every original price produces zero. That inverse case is indeterminate; a positive final price with 100% off is inconsistent.

Is sales tax included in the discounted price?

The optional tax field applies your entered rate to the price after the percentage and fixed discounts. It does not determine the applicable rate or the legal tax treatment of a coupon; delivery charges are not included.
