How it works
Fees also remove future earning capacity
A fee paid early removes money that could otherwise grow for years. In the no-fee comparison, distinguish charges actually deducted from foregone growth; the final balance gap can exceed the sum of direct fees.
Comparing contributions and fund charges
A mutual-fund projection depends on the assumed return and the contributions you make. Use the supported load, expense, or redemption modes to distinguish recurring growth assumptions from specific charges. Keep gross and net return assumptions consistent so that an expense is not deducted twice. A smooth projection illustrates a scenario; actual market returns need not arrive in that sequence.
Savings growth: formula and assumptions
Each period: balance grows at the equivalent periodic rate, then a contribution is added (or added first for beginning-of-period deposits).
Returns and inflation are assumptions held constant. Annual taxes on positive interest are deducted at year end.
Contributions, loads & expenses: formula and assumptions
Front load reduces each deposit. Expense reduces asset value. Exit load is applied to the selected lot basis.
A disclosed scenario, not a prospectus model. Gross returns compound monthly and expenses settle at year ends, prorated for each lot’s time invested. A no-fee comparison separates direct fees from foregone growth.
Single-lot redemption charge: formula and assumptions
Exit load = selected basis × load rate.
Use the actual prospectus to determine the applicable rate, holding-period schedule, waivers, and charge basis.

Example result
Projected balance: $54,713.58
Total contributions: $34,000.00
Growth after modeled tax: $20,713.58
Modeled investment tax: $0.00

What to keep in mind
Projected returns are hypothetical. Actual returns, fees, tax treatment, and deposit terms may differ.

Common questions
How are front-end loads different from ongoing expenses?
A front load reduces each invested deposit. The expense assumption reduces asset value over time under the modeled settlement schedule.
Does the calculator determine a fund's exit-load rules?
No. Enter the applicable rate and charge basis from the prospectus; holding periods, waivers and lot treatment are product-specific.
