Start, pause, and capture each lap.
Lap times
Record up to 50 laps. Reset clears the stopwatch and its laps.
Your lap times will appear here.
How do I use the online stopwatch?
Select Start to measure elapsed time. Use Lap to record a split while the stopwatch keeps running, and Pause to hold the result. Start resumes the same session. Reset clears the elapsed time and all recorded laps.
A lap is not the total
Three laps of 15, 18 and 12 seconds produce cumulative splits of 15, 33 and 45 seconds. Compare individual lap durations when you want to know which lap was fastest.
| Lap | Lap duration | Cumulative time |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 00:15 | 00:15 |
| 2 | 00:18 | 00:33 |
| 3 | 00:12 | 00:45 |
Measure time without setting a target
A stopwatch counts upward from zero. Use it to measure a practice round, a task, a presentation, or a personal routine when you do not know the duration in advance. The display shows hours, minutes, seconds, and hundredths of a second.
The displayed precision is for readability, not a guarantee that your click or touch was registered to the nearest hundredth. Browser scheduling, screen refresh rate, and your own reaction time all affect the timing of an action. For a countdown to a known duration, choose the Online Timer instead.
Understand laps and splits
Select Lap while the stopwatch is running to record the current total without interrupting the session. Each row shows the split since the previous lap and the total elapsed time since the session began. The first split is measured from the initial start.
You can record up to 50 laps in a session. The latest lap appears at the top of the table, while its lap number preserves the order. Pausing prevents new laps from being recorded. Reset clears the entire lap table, so keep any values you need before resetting.
What happens when you pause?
Pause captures the current elapsed duration and holds the display. Starting again adds a new running interval to that saved duration. The time spent paused is not included. You can pause and resume repeatedly without clearing the laps already recorded.
A monotonic browser clock measures active intervals, which avoids relying on the wall-clock time shown in your system settings. Screen updates are separate from elapsed-time measurement, so a delayed animation frame does not itself add or remove time. Device sleep behavior can vary between browsers.
Keep your session in view
The stopwatch and its lap records remain in this page for the current visit. Reloading or leaving the page clears the session. Keep the tab open while measuring, and avoid putting the device to sleep if you need a continuous measurement.
No account is needed, and the stopwatch does not upload your lap times. The World Clock is available for checking local times and dates, while the Time Zone Calculator handles a specific date in another region. Those tools answer calendar-time questions; a stopwatch answers an elapsed-time question.
