- Converted value
- 100 cm
How it works
Area factors must be squared
One meter equals 100 centimeters, but one square meter equals 10,000 square centimeters. Volume scales again to 1,000,000 cubic centimeters. Select area or volume explicitly instead of applying the length conversion to a measured surface or container.
Converting compatible measurements
Choose the measurement category before selecting source and destination units. Length, area, volume, and power describe different quantities even when their unit names look related. Temperature conversion also uses a different relationship from a simple scale factor in many other categories. Keep the original measurement precision in mind; a conversion can add displayed digits without adding new measurement accuracy.

Worked example
Using the Length example:
- Value
- 1
- From
- m
- To
- cm
Converted value = input × source-to-base factor / target-to-base factor.
Example result
Converted value: 100 cm

Common questions
Are US and imperial gallons interchangeable?
No. They are different volume units. Select the intended gallon explicitly before converting fuel, liquid or other volume quantities.
Why do decimal and binary data units give different results?
Decimal units use powers of 1,000, while binary units use powers of 1,024. The selected unit determines the conversion factor.
